The planning committee of the 28th Annual Real Estate Law Confernce at South Texas College of Law/Houston has tapped SLF attorney SJ Davidson Swanson to present a CLE session on the topic "Representing Brokers When Deals Go Bad" at the upcoming conference in June. Swanson will also submit a white paper on the topic.

Sarahjane "SJ" Davidson Swanson was recently selected for inclusion into the 2013 Martindale-Hubbell Bar Resister of Preeminent Women Lawyers. The register is exclusively open to women attorneys who have received the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards from their peers. Less than 5% of women lawyers have been recognized with an AV Preeminent Rating. Swanson has been AV rated every year since 2008, and AV Preeminent rated every year since 2010 when the preeminent designation became available.

The recently-charterd Phi Delta Phi Houston Barrister Inn elected its initial Council and Officers today. Houston attorneys Michael Vargo, Elly Austin, Gus M. Bernard, Travis Dunlap, Andrew G. "Drew" McGee, John “Jay” Patout, Billy Saqr, SJ Davidson Swanson, and Taryn Wright were elected to Council positions of the legal honors organization. Vargo was also elected President.
The Houston Barrister Inn is open to all Phi Delta Phi alums who currently practice law in and around Houston, Texas, and provides networking and professional opportunities for members through periodic meetings and events. It also serves as a resource for Phi Delta Phi members in law school and undergraduate universities.

SJ Swanson presented an extensive white paper and CLE course at the State Bar of Texas CLE's 2012 Advanced Real Estate Law Conference in San Antonio, Texas today. Her presentation discussed the liability of Texas real estate brokers and salespersons (agents), and property managers under the statutory regulations and case law. The South Texas College of Law Alumni Association welcomes new president, Houston attorney SJ Davidson Swanson. Swanson is the principle of the Swanson Law Firm, PLLC, which specializes in business matters and litigation, real estate, and contracts. She is a 2002 graduate of South Texas and earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Houston. She worked in the energy business for more than a decade before earning her law degree and is active in the Commercial Real Estate Women of Houston organization, Houston Big Brothers Big Sisters, and a member of the Houston, Texas, and American Bar Associations.
Also taking office October 1st are vice presidents Ephraim del Pozo ’97, a partner at Porter Hedges LLP; Jose Valera ’86, a partner at Mayer Brown LLP; T. Neal Nobles ’98, corporate counsel at Exxon Mobil; and Kim Ogg ’86, managing partner of The Ogg Law Firm. Immediate past president is Mark Murray ’90, partner at Stevenson & Murray. The Texas First Court of Appeals recently upheld the 157th Civil District Court's decision in a case SJ Davidson Swanson tried and won in May 2009 for clients Jordan-Lewis Development & Westbound Bank. The Courts agreed that Swanson's client's commercial property should be free of lien that a local Chinese-American bank wrongfully asserted after it accepted an agreed payoff and substitution of collateral from the property's prior owner. The appeallate court also upheld the $159k attorneys' fee award to Swanson's clients. Memorandum Opinion issued 7/14/11, No. 01-09-00990-CV, American First National Bank, Appellant, v. Today SJ Davidson Swanson was admitted to The College of the State Bar of Texas, an honor society chartered in 1981 by the Supreme Court of Texas recognizing Texas lawyers who make an extraordinary commitment to professional education.
The agency's website notes that, "The College is an honorary society of lawyers who are among the best-trained attorneys in Texas. Members are qualified attorneys who are interested in both high ethical standards and improved training for all Texas attorneys. The College recognizes lawyers who attend at least double the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) required by the State Bar of Texas."
Swanson is a solo practitioner and principal of the Swanson Law Firm, PLLC in Houston, Texas. She is a civil trial lawyer, and also maintains an active real estate and business transaction practice.

SJ Swanson was re-elected Secretary of the corporation and a member of the Executive Committee at the annual meeting of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston (now known as Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star). Swanson has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2006, and has served as Secretary for the past several years.
